Inquest into optometrist’s death concludes

A coroner concluded that Matthew Collins died as a result of his fall

An inquest heard on December 7 how an optometrist from Abergele, Wales left personal items in a pram before taking his own life at Pontcysyllte Aqueduct.

The body of Wrexham-born Matthew Collins was discovered at the site on the morning of June 29, North Wales Live reported.

An unattended pram was found at the aqueduct, but it only contained personal items such as keys and a phone. A coroner recorded a conclusion of suicide and that Collins died as a result of the fall.

Collins, who studied optometry in Cardiff, was described as ‘a loving husband and devoted father’ by his wife Holly Collins.
