Insight Optical introduces support staff training

Insight Optical Training launches Optical Academy for practice support staff

Insight Optical Training has sought to address ‘unmet need’ for training in the independent sector with the launch of a new Optical Academy for practice support staff.

In March, the Worshipful Company of Spectacle Makers (WCSM) withdrew its accredited qualifications for optical assistants, described by Insight Optical as an important step for unregulated support staff.

The company said it would maintain the full career ladder that has existed in optics, offering accredited courses at levels 2, 3 and 4 which give learners a nationally recognised qualification.

A company statement said: ‘Exams for current WCSM awarded qualifications will continue and there will be a full sitting in December 2019, therefore existing learners are not affected. This also applies to learners in Scotland who are studying the SCQF Level 5 & 7 Certificates in Optical Care.’
