Transitions Optical and Oakley have started a search for ironmen and women working within optics.

Triathlon.jpgTransitions Optical and Oakley have started a search for ironmen and women working within optics.

Their quest is to build a team, made up entirely of optical personnel from around Europe, to participate in the Monaco Ironman 70.3 triathalon next September. Participants in the event have to swim 1.9km, cycle 90km through the hills above the principality and then complete a half marathon around the famous Grand Prix course.

Transitions and Oakley believe the Ironman 70.3, exactly half the Ironman distance, is an event which transcends sport. Taking part requires emotional strength and dedication as well as physical excellence.

Ironman, say the pair, is about inspiration, emotion, and above all a lifestyle. Many who take part in the event describe the experience as life-changing and Transitions and Oakley are hoping to inspire those in optics through the event.

The opportunity to take part in the event is open to all those working in optics, 12 successful candidates will be chosen from around Europe and supported by a training and travel programme. This includes overseas training camps and coaching sessions. Training will start in January.

The progress of the UK team members will be followed throughout the year in Optician. Full details of the project and selection process will be published in forthcoming editions of Optician.

An entry form will soon be available on www.transitions.com or expressions of interest can be made by contacting ironman@transitions.com or by calling the international toll-free number 00800 7887 7887.
