J&J wins supply award

Johnson & Johnson Vision Care, the contact lens division of the US giant healthcare name, is overall winner of the European Supply Chain Excellence Awards.

The division beat off competition from companies in the electronics, utilities and fast-moving consumer goods markets. Accepting the awards at a gala dinner in London, European logistics director Julian Gooddy said the company's supply chain was essential for business growth. 'Our mission is to double the number of contact lens wearers by 2003,' he said. 'To achieve this we need not only to deliver contact lenses to our customers on time and accurately, but also to extend the coverage of our existing supply chain services, such as home delivery to patients. 'By managing our customers' supply chains we can provide convenience for both the optician and consumer.' The company despatches orders for its European customer base of around 40,000 practitioners 24 hours a day from its Middlesex office. Last week, optician reported that Bausch & Lomb's Netherlands-based European distribution centre had won another of the European Supply Chain Excellence Awards.
