Johnson & Johnson has ended a policy to set minimum prices for contact lenses in the US.
The decision will remove financial protection for eye care practitioners in competition with discount retailers like Costco and online sellers such as 1-800 Contacts – which challenged the policy in the courts.
The company said it was committed to helping optometrists, but was changing to focus on supporting federal legislation that aimed to quash attempts at deregulating the industry.
A CNN report said J&J would replace minimum pricing for a practitioner rewards scheme.
