A Kent dispensing optician is cycling from Lands End to John O'Groats at the end of the month to raise money for the charity Vision Aid Overseas.

Paul Yaxley, 32, from Rochester aims to cycle 874 miles in 14 days and raise £5,000 for the charity. He sets out on May 30 accompanied by five friends.

'This is no mean feat,' he said. 'Not only is the distance close to 900 miles, we will also be travelling up and down mountains and hills.'

Money raised by Yaxley will allow VAO to purchase equipment, organise projects and directly help patients in the developing world who are unnecessarily disabled.
