Leicester optometrist suspended for 12 months

A GOC fitness to practise committee has suspended Leicester-based optometrist Herkiran Riyait from its register for 12 months by reason of misconduct.

The decision was taken in relation to Riyait failing to engage with activity as directed by the GOC Investigation Committee in October 2022.

The registrant was not in attendance at the hearing and did not have any representation despite being given notice but the hearing went ahead in her absence.

An email sent by Riyait to the GOC in June 2022 stated she no longer wanted to continue with the process as it was exhausting and overwhelming. Additionally, she stated she was happy not to practise optometry any longer.
