LensCrafters settles accuracy class action

Legal Lenses

A six-year lawsuit filed against the EssilorLuxottica-owned retailer LensCrafters has been settled after the US multiple agreed to pay $39m to patients who challenged claims over the accuracy of its Accufit measurement system.

The multiple has been accused of violating New York, California and Florida consumer protection laws by claiming Accufit technology was five times more precise, down to 1/10th of a millimetre, than other measurement methods and offered crisper, clearer vision.

Plaintiffs argued that the claims were false because the multiple’s lens manufacturing facilities could not support the claimed level of accuracy. LensCrafters will pay approximately $50 to each affected customer.
