Lenstec to close Rawdon site

Lenstec Optical Group has announced plans to close its Rawdon site in Leeds and started a consultation with 21 members of staff who were at risk of redundancy.

Nigel Castle, managing director at Lenstec, said an increase in online consumer activity and a decline in the market share of independent optical practices meant Lenstec reviewed its services.

‘Given the independent optician is a core focus and currently served from multiple sites, we have proposed to simplify our footprint to better meet their needs. This has left us with no alternative but to consider closing the Rawdon site in Leeds this year, which could see around 21 positions put at risk of redundancy,’ he said.
