Online frame and contact lens retailer lensway.co.uk has gained significant multimedia coverage for a promotional giveaway of 10,000 pairs of spectacles for which customers only pay postage, packing and a handling fee.

The offer, which included designer frames up to the value of £99, required customers to 'like' the company on Facebook, which in turn would promote it on each of their own Facebook pages. The first 10,000 customers to do so received a voucher code for a pair of prescription glazed frames worth up to £99 and standard 1.50 index lenses up to -8 prescription.

Customers were only obliged to pay 5.5 per cent of the original frame price as a handling charge. So for a £99 frame the charge would be £5.45 plus £5.99 postage, making the order £11.44 in total. Not all the designer frames stocked by Lensway, which include brands such as Gucci, Ray-Ban, Tom Ford and Lacoste, were eligible for the deal.
