Politicians must listen to ordinary people 'who are the embodiment' of the policies they are likely to develop on eye health, was the message from Liberal Democrat health spokesman Greg Mulholland at his party's autumn conference.

Mulholland made the comment during his speech at a fringe meeting organised by the Eye Health Alliance in Bournemouth on Monday.

The topic of discussion was 'Buy now, pay later?' and was aimed at debating the need to spend more on preventive eye health services.

He added that the eye health sector would have to present a strong case on the financial benefits of putting in place preventive health policies to get noticed in the run-up to the election when other bodies would also be competing for government funding.
