LOCSU has posted details of each commissioning service won in the past six months, with contracts worth millions to local eye care providers cumulatively.
In September 2014, Wolverhampton CCG awarded a £630,000 contract for glaucoma repeat readings, cataract referral and MECs to Primary Eyecare Heart of West Midlands.
In the following month, newly-set up eye care companies in Kent and Medway, Norfolk and Waveney, and Sheffield won different contracts for services including IOP repeat readings, glaucoma repeat readings and pre- and post-cataract, children’s post screening and referral triage. The Sheffiled schemes were worth £250,000 to 30 practices in the area.
Primary Eyecare North East secured a two-year contract worth £145,000 with three CCGs in November last year, and since January a dozen more areas have either been awarded contracts or renewed. This represented potential income of more than £1m across the different regions since the beginning of the year.
