Local production for Varilux X

Production of Essilor’s flagship Varilux X Series lens has begun at the company’s manufacturing facility in Thornbury.

Essilor UK managing director Mike Kirkley (centre) said: ‘I was delighted to witness the first official order being made in Thornbury. This event generated a lot of excitement for the business because product demand has grown at an unprecedented rate.

‘Since its launch in May, it’s now outselling its predecessor, Varilux S series and is a firm favourite with our customers. Having production capability for Varilux X series in Thornbury is a vote of confidence for local manufacturing and confirms our commitment to our long-term UK strategy.’
