Contact lens company Bausch & Lomb UK is offering LOCs 500 each to help them establish a website presence on a portal aimed to help LOCs communicate with PCTs and the wider health community.
The contact lens company has agreed to contribute half the necessary fee for up to 25 LOCs to join the Primary Health Net (PHN). The process will be administered on a first-come-first-served basis, and those currently in discussion with PHN will be offered the subsidy.
B&L managing director Nick Loan (pictured) told Optician that the money will help speed up communications between professionals, and that a facility for greater exchange of ideas will help practitioners provide a better quality service.
'Helping professionals provide a first rate service is part of our mission just as is the provision of quality products,' he said.
'The two go hand in hand and this opportunity to put something back into the optical community is welcomed by us.
'We recognise the success seen by the LOCs already involved by improving the communications and interest within these local groups and the ability for communities to talk to one another and share knowledge and ideas. B&L recognises the value of the primaryhealthnet.com web portal as being a tool that LOCs can easily use and soon gain value from its use.'
As a concession, PHN will also offer free hosting and maintenance in the first year of a two-year contract.
