Locsu broadcasts message to television audience

Deeper role of high street optical practices highlighted

A spokesperson for Locsu explained the deeper role of high street optical practices to regional television viewers in the south-west of England earlier this month.

Locsu head of communications Chris McGachy appeared on the BBC Spotlight programme, pictured.

‘We have 12,000 optometrists and 7,000 practices in very accessible high street locations across the country, so there is spare capacity there,’ he told viewers.

‘In a number of areas of the country we already have a mixture of both monitoring of post-cataract and glaucoma services and around a third of those are low risk. So these can all be carried out in the community.’

Around 30 CCGs in England have now commissioned minor eye condition services, which made optical practices the first port of call, he added.
