A locum optometrist, who received a suspended jail sentence after admitting to forging claims at a number of Boots Opticians branches in a scam that involved over £18,000 has been struck off by the GOC.

A locum optometrist, who received a suspended jail sentence after admitting to forging claims at a number of Boots Opticians branches in a scam that involved over £18,000 has been struck off by the GOC.

Earlier this year, Jayant Dattani pleaded guilty at Leicester Crown Court to five counts of theft from Boots and an attempted theft between April and December 2006. He also asked for 22 similar offences to be considered.

Dattani, of Oadby, Leicestershire, was given an eight-month jail sentence, suspended for 18 months, with supervision. He was also ordered to do 160 hours of unpaid work.
