A Leicestershire optometrist who was given a suspended jail sentence and ordered to carry out unpaid work after making false claims for £13,500 has escaped a GOC interim suspension order.
The optometrist had admitted five specimen offences of theft, with 22 similar offences taken into account, at Leicester Crown Court.
As a result of his conviction an application was made for an interim ban pending a full hearing.
At a hearing in London on February 28, the GOC fitness to practise committee did not disclose the identity of the optometrist and decided not to impose an interim suspension order.
The panel heard that the optometrist had obtained part-time work at Boots Opticians through an agency. He admitted stealing a batch of claim forms for the Boots Fosse Park store and copying a store manager's signature onto the forms.
