Luxottica, the largest company in optics, has seen its turnover grow 14.1 per cent to ¬3.22bn, with net profits increasing 7.3 per cent to ¬287m.

Luxottica, the largest company in optics, has seen its turnover grow 14.1 per cent to ¬3.22bn, with net profits increasing 7.3 per cent to ¬287m.

Retail sales now account for more than two-thirds of Luxottica's turnover at ¬2.32bn, while wholesale sales grew by 10 per cent to ¬1.09bn.

'This was a particularly strong year for our entire organisation, both in retail and wholesale,' said Andrea Guerra, chief executive.

'All our optical and sun retail brands, from LensCrafters to Sunglass Hut to OPSM Group, performed well above industry trends, especially in terms of profitability. In wholesale, our strong fashion and house brands, which include Ray-Ban, the best-selling sun and prescription brand in the world, continued to strengthen their position in key markets worldwide,' he added.
