Luxottica has been presented with a class action lawsuit in the US

The luxury eyewear giant Luxottica has been presented with a lawsuit in the US over an alleged failure to sufficiently protect customer data.

Connecticut resident Michael Doyle, the plaintiff, received a letter from the company explaining that an unauthorised individual may have gained access to his customer data, including health insurance information, social security number and other sensitive data. The letter explained that the hacker gained access to customer data through an online scheduling application used by its retail stores.

Following the breach Luxottica informed US federal law enforcement and implemented additional access restrictions. It explained that social security numbers and credit card information had only been accessed ‘in a limited number of cases’.
