Luxottica has set out to strengthen its luxury brand portfolio with the acquisition of French eyewear manufacturer Alain Mikli International.

The company announced it had entered into an exclusivity agreement with luxury brand investment firm NEO Capital and Alain Miklitarian for 100 per cent of Alain Mikli International.

Alain Mikli, created in 1978 in Paris, posted net sales of approximately €60m in 2011 and is known for distinctive frame designs with unconventional use of colours inspired by Mikli's heritage.

Luxottica CEO Andrea Guerra said: 'This proposed operation perfectly reflects our long-term growth strategy. With its innovative design, Alain Mikli would enrich our luxury eyewear segment and further strengthen our prescription soul, where we have deeply invested in the past years, to further contribute to the group's resilient growth.'
