National sight loss charity the Macular Society has received a £100,000 donation from the Freemasons to help fund its research into a cure for AMD.
The grant, which has been given to Professor Majlinda Lako and her team at the Institute of Genetic Medicine at Newcastle University, will be used to create a human disease model of AMD.
The model would ‘accelerate progress towards understanding how AMD develops and test the effectiveness of new treatments’, the charity said.
