A nurse from Optegra Surrey Eye Hospital flew to Myanmar as part of a specialist international team of eye care professionals.
A nurse from Optegra Surrey Eye Hospital in Guildford, Surrey flew to Myanmar as part of a specialist international team of eye care professionals. Theatre sister Hannah Atkinson was one of three healthcare professionals and eye surgeons from the UK who joined five others from Australia, India and other countries. Atkinson was given an extra week's leave to attend by Optegra and the company also paid for her flights. The team have helped restore the sight of hundreds of people in the Mandalay region of the country, many of whom had been blinded by cataracts and other treatable conditions. Before they left, the team expected to carry out over 250 operations during the two-week project for cataracts, congenital squints and glaucoma.
