Marcolin sees profits dip

Italian eyewear manufacturer Marcolin reported a net profit for the first half of the year of €7.1m, a slight decrease on its €7.5m profit for the same period in 2008.

Italian eyewear manufacturer Marcolin reported a net profit for the first half of the year of €7.1m, a slight decrease on its €7.5m profit for the same period in 2008.

Revenue decreased from €107.7m for the first half of 2008 to €100m this year, although domestic sales and sales in North America increased by 7 and 0.9 per cent respectively.

However, Marcolin's sales in Europe decreased by 16.5 per cent to €37.7m over the period.

Massimo Saracchi, managing director and general manager of Marcolin, commented: 'Considering the continuing factors of uncertainty surrounding international markets, casting a shadow over short-term forecasts, we are braced for a particularly challenging third quarter with a recovery during the fourth.'
