mark’ennovy’s launches contact lens products Blu:gen and Blu:kidz for children

Blue light blocking and UV protection across a wide range of parameters for all ages are the features of mark’ennovy’s latest contact lens products, Blu:gen and Blu:kidz.

The combination of blue light filtering and UV blocking offers all round protection and is a world first in contact lenses, said custom-made contact lens manufacturer mark’ennovy. ‘In the last couple of years we have seen a rapid rise of blue light blocking spectacle lenses. However, no contact lens manufacturer has managed to introduce a lens which offers both first class UV protection and blue light blocking filters simultaneously,’ said Chris Carter, group marketing and sales director.

Blu:gen also has a sister lens for younger wearers called Blu:kidz. Exposure to digital devices has been linked to poor sleep, digital eye strain and damaged eye structures, said the firm. Studies have shown that 75% of children have access to some kind of smart digital device. It was reported that 72% of children spend more than two hours a day using digital devices with 30% of them starting while still in nappies. Children are also exposed to high levels of UV damage with exposure high in the first two decades of life. Special child-friendly packaging has also been developed.

Blu:gen is a monthly replacement lens made with a silicone hydrogel material, featuring 75% water content, super low modulus of 0.25 MPa, DK of 60, low dehydration and a green handling tint. The lens will be available in spherical, toric, multifocal and multifocal toric geometries. Diameters range from 11.50mm to 16.50mm allowing the lens to be fitted to the smallest corneas. For presbyopes, additions now range from +0.50 to +4.00 in 0.25 steps allowing for ultra-precise correction at the earliest stages of presbyopia.
