Optical professionals working at Mee Healthcare have lost their jobs after the company ceased trading three years after it was started up.
It was reported this weekend that the firm, set up to provide integrated healthcare centres for optical, hearing, dental, GP and nursing services in community settings, was in liquidation.
Mee Healthcare began rolling out practices in early 2012 in a multimillion pound project backed by the Allele Fund, which itself was co-founded by lawyer Cherie Blair – wife of former Prime Minister Tony Blair.
The stores were located alongside Sainsbury’s supermarket stores. A spokesperson for Sainsbury’s confirmed Mee had ceased trading.
