MEI Systems to release edging machine

Manufacturing equipment developer MEI Systems will make its EzFit No Block compact lens edging machine, originally revealed at Mido, available this Novemeber.

A vacuum system holds the lens in position with guidance from an integrated lensmeter to speed up the edging tasks in high volume retail stores and small labs. It also loads and unloads lenses to and from the cutting chamber with an arm. The edger can be set to work continuously or to cut a pairs of lenses in sequence for individual frames.

While this technology was already available for large companies, the latest model is designed to work in high street practice. According to MEI the machine means that lenses can be positioned, ‘without any specific optical skills’.
