Contact lens manufacturer Menicon’s new multipurpose contact facility in the Netherlands is now fully operational.
The new 4,675 square metre manufacturing and distribution hub in Emmen was officially opened last month, with full operations beginning since.
The manufacturer will produce and distribute made-to-order RGP and soft lenses at the new plant, alongside R&D teams working on new lens designs and new support software. Menicon’s disposable lenses and lens care supplies will also be distributed from the site. Additional space has been set aside for future expansion.
In keeping with its ethos of providing clear vision, Menicon said it designed the glass-clad structure to provide workers with abundance of natural light. The structure also boasts environmentally friendly credentials, such as groundwater heat pumps and waste heat harvesting from air conditioning, which the company said reduced power consumption by up to 45 per cent and cut CO2 emissions by 35 per cent.
