Mexx Eyes up youth market

German frame company OWP has been awarded the European and US licence to distribute spectacle frames from Dutch fashion company Mexx. The firm, whose lines are sold through department stores and its own shops in the UK, produces clothes, cosmetics, fragrances and accessories.

'Although OWP is still very much concerned with the mature frame market, the company is moving into areas, especially the youth market, where it doesn't have a strong presence at the moment,' explains Tom Easton, general manager for the UK. The Mexx Eyes range which retails from &\#163;75-&\#163;95 comprises 14 styles of nine metal frames and five plastics in two sizes. There is a strong use of colour in the mainly unisex collection and each metal style offers six options including gold, silver, palladium, copper and blue. The plastic range features matt finishes in crystal, blue, pink and brown, which are teamed with metal sides. Lightweight plastic sunclips are also available. 'Coloured frames are beginning to make their mark in the UK,' says Mr Easton. 'OWP will be on the scene with this move towards brighter colours and modern shapes.' OWP has also attained the licence for a new titanium range of prescription and sunglasses for the mature wearer called Senna. Contact 01625 535995.
