ways of seeing: A former optician from Minehead in Somerset is exhibiting his paintings at the town's Churchgate Gallery as part of its Ways of Seeing exhibition. Paul Askew has been painting scenes, people and events from his travels for over 20 years and after a career in optics is attempting to recreate reality through his paintings based on photographs. All his work is painted in black and white 'to emphasise the composition and subject matter without the distraction of colour'. Through his work, Askew wishes to present images as objectively as possible using his knowledge of the physical limitations of the human eye and the camera. His work will be on display until June 12.
