Dollond and Aitchison has received an apology from the Daily Mirror after the newspaper informed its readers that D&A was giving free eye tests, several days after a promotion had expired.
The paper incorrectly reported on January 10 that D&A would provide free eye tests that weekend. However, the offer, obtained by redeeming a voucher from D&A's website, had already been removed on the 9th.
D&A pulled another free eye test offer last September, after admitting it had struggled to cope with the demand from the offer being widely publicised.
D&A rejected suggestions that its January promotion was similarly axed. A spokesperson said: 'The offer was not pulled due to unprecedented demand. Rather, the offer was removed from the company website on January 9 2008 to allow focus on another marketing activity that launched that week, which had been part of the marketing plan for many months.'
