Drivers of mobility scooters and electric wheelchairs may have to take eye examinations according to a House of Commons debate (October 27).
Junior transport minister Norman Baker said that a possible minimum eyesight requirement and incentives for users to meet these requirements were among a number of considerations the Department for Transport (DfT) was looking into.
He was responding to Liberal Democrat MP Annette Brooke who asked what progress had been made on considering responses to the DfT's consultation on proposed changes to the law governing powered mobility scooters and powered wheelchairs and whether additional requirements to improve safety would be implemented.
