The global agreement includes both the Yohji Yamamoto and Y brands and is scheduled to run for nine years including renewal periods. The first eyewear collections are due for release in 2014. Mondottica said Yohji Yamamoto remained one of the world's most influential designers and has made a vital contribution to fashion over the past 40 years. 'Renowned for blurring the boundary between fashion and the arts, he has influenced theatrical and cinematic fashion, and his work has been exhibited worldwide,' said a company spokesperson.

On the agreement, Mondottica group chairman Michael Jardine said: 'Mondottica is proud to work with Yohji Yamamoto and to be associated with his legendary brands. This will hold an honored position at the top of the Mondottica family of wonderful brands.'
