Moorfields Eye Hospital is hosting a glaucoma patient day at Central Hall Westminster on Saturday October 1 to bring together patients, clinicians and researchers in the field.
The free event, from 10am to 5pm, aims to understand glaucoma from a patient's perspective, raise its profile and reduce the sense of isolation felt by some sufferers.
Some 500,000 people in the UK suffer from glaucoma, but Moorfields estimated that 67 per cent remained undetected. It said it wanted to empower patients to educate family and friends and provide a platform for future research relevant to patients.
Ananth Viswanathan, a glaucoma consultant at Moorfields, described it as a day for patients and clinicians to learn from each other.
