Northampton optometrist and British Contact Lens Association president Brian Tompkins has become the first practitioner to fit scleral lenses in Russia.
Tompkins travelled to the Russian State Research Institute of Eye Diseases in Moscow after being invited by Russian eye care luminaires Natalia Kaschenko and Olga Ryabenko. There, he demonstrated fitting techniques for scleral lenses to 300 Russian practitioners.
He said: ‘These lenses can have a huge impact on patients, in some cases helping to make them see again when otherwise they’d be facing a lifetime of potential blindness.’
