A driver was sentenced to 140 hours of community work and disqualified for a year after admitting causing death by careless driving, reportedly after losing his spectacles.
Mohammed Rashid’s Ford Focus knocked down 32-year-old pedestrian Laurence Gunn in Hampstead, north London, last March. He was treated by paramedics at the scene but died from his injuries the following day.
Rashid, who was arrested at the scene, pleaded guilty to the charge and together with his community service and ban was given eight penalty points, ordered to pay £500 costs and complete 12 lessons under the restorative justice system.
According to a report of the proceedings by The Daily Telegraph, Rashid could only read a registration plate seven feet away and admitted to police he had lost his glasses.
