Regular eye exams and patient support are key in tackling the impact of AMD on the UK population, eye health experts agreed this week.
A House of Commons reception on the issue was hosted by Sir David Amess (pictured), MP for Southend West this week.
‘AMD is indeed a ticking time bomb,’ he said. ‘Eye clinicians cannot keep up with the number of people requiring many treatment injections to stop them going blind.’
Sir David said much more needed to be done in raising awareness of the condition.
Joined-up primary and secondary care, support for private health enterprises, shared patient records and a greater number of eye clinics were also needed, he said at the event, organised by AMD Alliance International and sponsored by Oraya.
