Sauflon has launched the world's first silicone hydrogel (SiH) daily disposable contact lens for presbyopia with the clariti 1day multifocal.
The launch follows that of the clariti 1day toric daily (News 18.02.11), a world-first daily disposable for astigmatism, and the award-winning clariti 1day (News 05.06.09).
UK sales director Bradley Wells said: 'Sauflon is proud to be the first manufacturer to establish a SiH daily disposable family. The clariti 1day family is now available in sphere, toric and multifocal designs, allowing eye care professionals (ECPs) to provide a SiH daily disposable lens to meet every patient's lifestyle and vision needs.'
The company sees a large market for the lens, with 48 per cent of the UK population over 40 and moving towards presbyopia. It also cited the dramatic increase in contact lens drop-outs among patients in their mid-40s, the result of their lenses no longer meeting their lifestyle and vision needs, and added that the presbyopic age group showed the highest rate of drop-out.
