Specsavers has been forced to apologise to the residents of Shetland after it mistakenly informed them that their patient records had been transferred to its new practice in Lerwick.
A report in the Shetland Times said the multiple, which had recently taken over an old music shop, sent a letter to its registered customers which stated 'your optical record has been transferred to our Specsavers Lerwick store.'
The report claimed local practices C Kelly Opticians and Miller's Opticians were furious and that both practices had received angry calls from patients.
A Specsavers spokesperson said the new practice was a replacement for a mobile service and that it wrote to registered patients to inform them of the changes as a duty of care. However, the multiple said it also inadvertently wrote to patients who had booked appointments but did not attend. It added that its database had been amended and apologised for any confusion.
