A Shetland optometrist is suing his estranged wife for £800,000, blaming her for forcing him out of the business they ran together for 20 years.
A report in the Shetland Times (September 3) said Brian Kelly, who ran Kelly Opticians in Lerwick with his wife Christine, claimed a court order of an interim interdict taken out by her after their business partnership was dissolved in 2004 had forced him to give up and leave Shetland. Now Kelly, who lives in Paisley, is seeking £208,000 and £530,000 to reflect his share in the business, along with £80,000 in restitution of stock and £3,000 in interest.
The marriage ended six years ago after Kelly had an afffair with a colleague's wife. In March 2004, London optician Peter Alexander appeared at Lerwick Sheriff Court to admit having assaulted Mr Kelly, having discovered his wife had had an affair with him.
