Three optical professionals have become fodder for the tabloids after one flew from London to Lerwick and assaulted the other for having an affair with his wife.
The Daily Mail (March 19) reported how Peter Alexander, who runs a practice with his wife in Enfield, London, travelled to optometrist Brian Kelly's practice on Shetland to 'give him a black eye', after Kelly allegedly taunted him about an affair he had with Alexander's wife and business partner, Susan. Alexander admitted assault and was fined £175 by Lerwick Sheriff Court last week.
But the story was this week followed up by the Daily Record, which stated that Kelly and his wife Christine would appear in court next month accused of defrauding the NHS of £12,460 by making false claims for repairing spectacles and providing replacement pairs.
If convicted, Kelly would face formal proceedings with the GOC disciplinary committee.
