Dollond & Aitchison is to make all 90 of its dedicated contact lens opticians redundant in a major restructuring of its contact lens services.
The company is currently consulting with all 90 professionals about proposals to make them redundant. Those staff will then be given the opportunity to apply for an unspecified number of new posts.
Dr Rob Hogan, director of professional services, said the consultation was being conducted in line with the best human resources policy and it would be inappropriate to say how many new posts would be created or how many contact lens opticians may be affected.
Talks with the individuals involved were currently taking place, he added.
