Myopia Focus has joined the profession in urging the new Labour government to address pressing issues in optometry and ophthalmology, particularly the growing myopia epidemic among children.
With recent studies indicating that myopia rates among British children have more than doubled in the past 50 years, the organisation has proposed four key policy proposals to address the myopia crisis.
The proposals include increasing funding for eye care services, implementing a national myopia management program, providing research and development support and investing in the workforce to meet the growing demand for services.
‘The new Labour government has a unique opportunity to make lasting improvements to eye care in the UK. By prioritising the myopia epidemic and ensuring affordable access to treatments, they can safeguard the vision of future generations,’ said Myopia Focus.
