N Ireland consults on improving eye care

Eye health

A consultation to improve eye care provision in Northern Ireland was launched last week by health minister Edwin Poots.

It aims to improve the services offered to those living with sight problems and encourage a partnership approach to ensure the best use is made of current services.

Speaking at the launch of Developing Eyecare partnerships, Improving Eyecare Provision in Northern Ireland, Poots said that 52,000 people in Northern Ireland were living with sight problems.

'I am committed to improving eye care services for patients in Northern Ireland and to achieve this we will need to aim for more effective partnership working among all the professionals involved. The arrangements proposed in this document will take our services forward in the right direction and result in better care for patients,' Poots said.
