National Eye Health laser surgery survey

A survey of more than a thousand UK adults found that a third of respondents were considering having laser eye surgery, but many were unaware that results are non-reversible.

The National Eye Health Survey of 1002 UK adults highlighted that 33% of respondents were considering laser eye surgery, 28% were unaware that results are non-reversible and only 16% were aware of the potential impact on night vision.

Specialist eye consultant and founder of the London Ophthalmology Centre, Vik Sharma, commissioned the survey last month to raise awareness about eye diseases, the importance of regular check-ups and other available treatments.

The survey also highlighted that less than half (48%) were aware of alternatives to laser surgery to correct eyesight such as lens replacement and refractive lens exchange.

Even fewer (7%) were aware of iCL Vision Correction, which the company said helps people to enjoy sharper, clearer, and more vivid vision, with greater depth and dimension.

‘It is concerning to see so many of the public unaware that laser eye surgery is permanent and that millions aren’t considering the alternatives available for eyesight correction,’ said Sharma.
