Practitioners have set out to bolster public awareness of eye health as part of the profession’s flagship annual campaign.
National Eye Health Week, (September 16-22) was launched with a gathering of organisers and MPs in Westminster this week. A number of eye care professionals were using the campaign as a platform to educate patients and lobby for improved public health policies.
Kelcher Optometrists, Walsall, will ask patients to try on glasses that simulate eye conditions such as glaucoma, AMD and cataract.
Optometrist Michaela Kelcher (pictured above) said: ‘We hope that our event will raise awareness about how severely eye disease can affect vision when left undiagnosed and untreated and explain that eye examinations and OCT scans can detect visual problems and eye diseases early when treatment is likely to be more effective.’
