NaturalVue studies assess myopia management efficacy

Visioneering Technologies Inc (VTI) has shared the results of three independent studies that assessed myopic children wearing its NaturalVue multifocal one day contact lenses.

The company said the findings combined with six-year data published in 2022, suggested the contact lens effectively managed eye growth and refractive error change over two years of follow-up at least.

Dr Ashley Tuan, VTI’s chief medical officer, said: ‘Despite having vastly different demographics with sites spread across America, the results in these three studies were remarkably similar. This demonstrates that real-world results with this unique design are consistent and repeatable.’

The studies included 108 children who were evaluated when wearing the multifocal at 12 months and 24 months of wear.

Most patients progressed less than or equal to 0.25D in years one and two in all three cohorts and average annual myopia progression in each cohort was less than 0.15D in years one and two.

Average axial length change was less than 0.10 mm per year at years one and two, which VTI said was approximately consistent with that expected in emmetropic children.

The studies found similar Care value (cumulative absolute reduction in axial elongation) versus virtual control subjects during the two-year follow-up period from both cohorts reporting axial length data.
