Nemo's departureÉ coincides with yet another tale of a practitioner falling foul of the GOC's rules governing publicity

Nemo's final column appears in this week's issue of optician some 42 years after he made his first regular, and for many years, weekly submission.

As the current editor of optician I wish to extend the greatest of thanks to Nemo and to wish him the happiest of retirements.

It has been an honour and a pleasure to have Nemo as a contributor to this journal. The scale of his achievement is not measured merely in years. Nemo's intelligence, knowledge and reliability are possessed only by the best of columnists.

I am able to make this claim, not just because I know it to be true as an informed observer, but also because the world of the columnist is not ruled by constraints similar to those of optical profession advertising.
