New cataract surgery technique performed

Eye specialist Dr Sheraz Daya has performed cataract removal surgery using the new VICTUS femtosecond laser during a broadcasted event.

An audience of 45 optometrists were invited to see the laser in action. It was claimed to have the ability to perform cataract surgery in less than 20 seconds.

The VICTUS has been launched in the UK by a partnership between Bausch + Lomb and Technolas Perfect Vision, with Dr Daya's demonstration taking place at the Centre for Sight in East Grinstead on June 20.

Andrew Webb, European vice president of Bausch + Lomb, said: 'The femtosecond laser technology enables greater precision in both cataract and refractive procedures compared to manual techniques, giving ophthalmologists more control and potentially enhancing the patient experience.'
