Carl Zeiss Vision has extended its ophthalmic lens portfolio with the release of the Digital lens range designed for what the company said was a ‘newly identified and fast-growing patient category that constantly used digital devices.’ According to the manufacturer, the visual interaction with smartphones, tablets and other digital devices placed high visual demands on the mechanisms of accommodation and convergence, which could often result in near vision discomfort, headaches, and other symptoms. It added that in the UK, over 62 per cent of the population now used smartphones and that this figure was increasing. The new Digital lens line up has been designed for patients in their 30s and 40s and can be tailored to individual requirements. It was also said to reduce symptoms of eye fatigue and strain by a factor of four. To accompany the release of the range, a Zeiss Digital Lenses app for practitioners has been added to the Apple App Store and Google Play marketplace. The app has been designed as a sales aid to help opticians identify possible eye stress and select the right patients for the new lenses. A consumer-based app for patients has also been developed to help patients identify digital eye strain and increase awareness of the Digital lens range. Passwords for the app are available from the manufacturer. ? DETAILS: 0845 300 7788.
