glasgowA research project will analyse the impact of visual impairment on movement and function in people with multiple sclerosis (MS).

Glasgow Caledonian University (GCU) researchers were setting out to advance knowledge concerning the visual dysfunction seen in MS, and would guide rehabilitation strategies to help people with this condition. The study was to recruit patients with MS and make assessments for visual impairments and functional performance.

A statement by the university said vision impairments were a concern for 80 per cent of patients who had received a diagnosis of multiple sclerosis.

The research had received Bevan Scholarship funding for a joint PhD studentship, working with GCU and the NHS Ayrshire and Arran’s Douglas Grant Rehabilitation Centre, the statement added. Funding had also been received from the RS Macdonald Trust.
